Egas Moniz has since its inception been a community of students, teachers and staff, and its mission is "dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, learning and education of its students, at the service of improving the health conditions of global society in the twenty-first century".

Foundation of Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde
1987
Egas Moniz is born from the partial divison of CESPU – Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Politécnico e Universitário C.R.L.
1998
Escola Superior de Saúde Egas Moniz (ESSEM) is born
1999
ISCS – Sul changes its name to Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Egas Moniz (ISCSEM)
2005
New name change to Instituto Universitário Egas Moniz

Initiatives
Equality, Inclusion and Diversity
Egas Moniz is a signatary of Portuguese Diversity Charter. The Diversity Charter is an European Commission initiative and a voluntary instrument created with the intent of encouraging employers to implement and develop internal policies and practices to promote diversity. In March 2016, a Portuguese Diversity Charter was written, which has been signed by over 200 institutions including many higher education institutions.
