Through practical activities, internships at partner organizations and research projects, students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom in practice.

In this way, our Master's program stands out as an excellent choice for all those interested in deepening their knowledge in the area of ​​Mental Health and Psychiatry, acquiring practical skills and preparing for a successful career in the current scenario.

Another highlight is centered on Nurs*Lab, a scientific research laboratory integrated into the Egas Moniz Interdisciplinary Research Center. In this space, our team encompasses various projects of great relevance both nationally and internationally, in the different areas of study cycles.

We have a highly specialized teaching staff in various areas of Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, whose qualifications are solid and constantly growing, both in research and in clinical practice and in intervention in various clinical contexts.

• Develop specialized intervention skills in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, based on a body of knowledge, based on evidence-based practice, which allow the student to demonstrate clinical judgment skills and ethical and deontological decision-making;
• Develop skills that allow the resolution of new problems and complex situations in the area of ​​Mental Health Nursing and Psychiatry, demonstrating critical thinking in the contexts of clinical practice and research;
• Stimulate the improvement of the quality of health care through the promotion of research practice;
• Train experts in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing with skills for clinical governance, team management, projects and nursing care, in the different contexts of clinical practice.

In addition to the international guest faculty, students have the opportunity to carry out research work in partnership with other countries. This possibility offers a unique experience of immersion in different academic and cultural contexts, enriching your research with diverse perspectives and expanding your global professional and academic networks. This opportunity also contributes to the development of research skills in international environments, promoting a broader and more integrated view of the challenges and opportunities in their areas of study.

We have established internship protocols with several institutions where Mental Health and Psychiatric care is urgently needed, covering a variety of intervention contexts. These include hospital, community, forensic, addictions-related and long-term care settings serving children, youth and adults. Furthermore, the internship supervisors have experience in these areas, which guarantees close monitoring adapted to the needs of students during their integration and adaptation to the host institutions.

Holders of a degree in Nursing will be admitted to apply.

Candidates who perform this Master's degree obtain a specialisation carried out through internships in public hospitals in Portugal, therefore, it is required to be registered with the Order of Nurses in Portugal.
