Since this is the first Criminal Intelligence Analysis degree taught at university in Portugal.

Lecturers with recognised experience and professional, technical, and academic skills in their fields of activity, which not only makes up an adequate curricular structure but is also a cornerstone of quality assurance for this Degree.

• Provide qualifications by means of scientific knowledge and basic and advanced technical skills in order to understand, interpret, and apply the Intelligence Analysis methods and practices in crime prevention and investigation either independently or integrated in a team;
• Encourage and provide knowledge and skills enabling them to develop an academic and professional practice of Intelligence Analysis based on a systematic, methodical, interdisciplinary, critical, conscious, and strict approach built on an ethical and legal professional exercise and its application to the activity of the Government, Corporations, and Civil Society in light of the problem of crime in terms of prevention as well as investigation;
• Develop the knowledge and skills that are the reason for the existence of Intelligence Analysis, namely: the ability to think; managing the pressure of time; the complexity of the matter under analysis; data processing and management; interpreting and presenting findings; mastering techniques, processes, and technologies; the ability to communicate; ethical and legal rigour; integration into organisations and teamwork; and decision-making support.

1. Exercise the activity of Intelligence Analyst within the context of crime prevention and investigation;

   1. Consciously apply the ethical and legal principles and limits, namely confidentiality, protection, and privacy of personal data;

      1. Become acquainted with malpractice and the methods and techniques of crime prevention and investigation;

         1. Identify and apply the suitable scientific study for understanding and interpreting the issue being studied; 

            1. Identify the suitable techniques for analysing, interpreting, and responding to the issue being studied; 

               1. Show sensitivity to the impact of cognitive biases in the process of human thought; 

                  1. Interact and communicate proficiently; 

                     1. Know and use advanced digital technology in the process of analysis, open-source research, data processing, and in promoting the updating of their technological skills; 

                        1. Apply the scientific method and interpret data resorting to the proper statistical methods and techniques for the problem of analysis being studied.

CiiEM’s research in Criminal Intelligence Analysis focuses on utilizing advanced analytical techniques and data-driven approaches to enhance crime prevention and investigation strategies. This field offers researchers the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative methodologies, improve crime analysis frameworks, and support law enforcement agencies in their efforts to ensure public safety and justice.

Technical and professional certification, namely qualification with the Analyst's Notebook Course (MKCVI and i2) and the possibility of submitting students to the curricular evaluation for Criminal Information Analyst.
