Programme

Syllabus

The programme for this degree has been prepared to allow for physical therapists to consolidate specific professional Neuromuscular Physiotherapy skills while at the same time developing new specific technical and scientific skills and abilities enabling them to understand, interpret, and fit new technologies to the process of assessment, intervention, and research in Physical Therapy.

Neuromuscular Physiotherapy

- Knowledge on the job of the nervous system in human movement from the cells to an interaction with the motor, visual, proprioceptive, and cardiorespiratory systems;
- The ability to recognise the different specificities of the pathophysiology of neurological diseases with particular focus on neural and motor circuits;
- The ability to analyse and interpret neurophysiologic signs, which are useful to recognise the altered parameters, as well as the different exams directly associated with lack of movement;
- The ability to recognise the potential and applicability of the available technological means in order to develop methods to be used in clinical practice as well as scientific research;
- Knowledge and the ability to connect the assessed neurophysiologic components with direct clinical observations directing the clinical decision to a definition of the proper therapy procedures for individual clinical situations;
- The ability to identify the characteristics and applicability of new technologies in order to provide complementary assessment/interventions in Physical Therapy;
- Knowledge and the ability to apply virtual reality as an additional means to an intervention/assessment in Physical Therapy;
- The ability to identify the characteristics and specificities of non-invasive ventilation in neurological situations that involve the cardiorespiratory system;
- The ability to know the difference between the monitoring and biofeedback of neurophysiologic and biomechanical signs of human movement;
- Knowledge on the pharmacological therapy that can interfere in the nerve transmission changing motor performance.
