Sports dentistry, as an organized set of complementary or instrumental knowledge in relation to the functional content of Dentistry, encompasses knowledge of the impact of high-performance sports on the health of the stomatognathic system, the impact on the well-being of athletes and the risks that arise from it; the evaluation of the specificities of the stomatognathic system in sports, prevention and treatment of orofacial injuries, provision, use and handling of personalized protective devices appropriate to each sport.
