• You may apply for your visa at the Portuguese Consulate or Embassy closest to you, according to your country of residence or nationality.

Visas applications should be submitted well in advance to ensure entry into Portugal during the final assessment period, which corresponds to the last month of the programme (July for the Spring intake and January for the Autumn intake). We recommend starting the application process at least 60 days before the beginning of the compulsory on-campus classes. Although this is the official recommendation, we strongly advise applicants to begin the process as soon as they receive confirmation of acceptance into the programme, in order to allow sufficient time for all required procedures.

Given the duration of the programme, we generally recommend that international students apply for a temporary stay visa. This visa allows entry into Portugal for stays of less than one year, is valid for the duration of the stay and permits multiple entries into national territory.

The temporary stay visa application must be submitted at the Embassy after receiving confirmation of acceptance into the Gateway Foundation Programme
