LCFPEM has the aim of placing the human and material resources of Egas Moniz in the performance of Medico-Legal and Technical-Scientific Expertise for the Justice System.
With the creation of the first degree in Forensic Sciences in Portugal, Egas Moniz has emerged as a leading institution in this area, both in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
With an international, highly qualified teaching and research staff in Forensic Sciences, Psychology and Forensic Medicine, the Laboratório de Ciências Forenses e Psicológicas Egas Moniz (LCFPEM) emerges from the synergy between teaching and research in Forensic Sciences and Psychology, with the mission of putting the Academy at the service of Justice, with the indispensable thoroughness, quality and ethics.
The LCFPEM has three main areas of activity:
- Research;
- Training;
- Forensic Expertise.
The LCFPEM is committed to research activities, with ongoing projects in the areas of Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Botany/Geology and Forensic Dental Medicine.
The LCFPEM promotes training in the forensic area, namely through the organisation of monthly workshops. These have as target audience: Magistrates; Lawyers; Medical Forensic Scientists; Criminal Investigators; Police Officers; Chemists; Biologists; and Students.
The LCFPEM also provides support to Courts, Lawyers and Individuals, by carrying out:
A. Medico-Legal Expertise in the areas of:
- Forensic Dental Medicine;
- Forensic Pathology;
- Forensic Psychology.
B. Technical-Scientific in the areas of:
- Forensic Biology and Microbiology;
- Forensic Chemistry/Toxicology
- Forensic Pharmacology;
- Documentary Analysis;
- Handwriting Comparison.
