Laboratório de Microbiologia Aplicada Egas Moniz
The Laboratório de Microbiologia Aplicada Egas Moniz (LMAEM), established in 2010 by Egas Moniz, created in 2010 by Egas Moniz, constitutes another field of application of the consolidated experience of teaching, research and provision of services to the community.
Lab Manager: Prof. Doutora Helena Barroso
LMAEM provides services in the area of microbiological control, including the following activities:
- Microbiological analysis of: waters; sands; cosmetics; foodstuffs; pharmaceutical products; raw materials.
- Determination of Bioburden;
- Sterility tests;
- Study of the efficiency of preservation agents;
- Study of the bactericidal activity of disinfectants;
- Microbiological assessment of antibiotics and vitamins;
- Among others.
The lab collaborates with companies in the pharmaceutical, chemical and environmental industries, as well as with local authorities. The laboratory has implemented the quality management system and is in the process of accreditation according to standard NP EN ISO 17025.
The lab also collaborates in the area of professional training, providing internships in the microbiological control area to students from Egas Moniz and students from technological courses. It also participates in research projects related to its area of intervention.
